Our Violin Program
How much do you charge for violin lessons?
Our starting rate for tuition is $100 per month per student for three (3) 30-minute lesson reservations per month.
How many lessons do you give per month?
We give the average of three (3) individual lessons each month. The lessons weeks are scheduled around holidays, and are clearly outlined in a monthly studio schedule that is published at the end the previous month.
Do you teach year round or just through the school year?
We are open 11-1/2 months out of the year providing the last part of December as a time to focus on family and the Holidays. We also make way for special Holidays throughout the year as well as occasional trips that require extended amounts of time for further training in music or family ministry excursions. But those are a rarity, and are thoroughly communicated about before hand. (See Our Studio Policies and scroll down to Calendar and Tuition).
What books do you use?
Our studio mainly uses the Suzuki violin books. But we also have a variety of supplemental material that is used, though not limited to, selected pieces from the Solos for Young Violinists compiled by Barbara Barber as well as various hymn arrangements by Kristin Campbell & Ruth Coleman, Tracy Ann Collins, and David Ritter. Each lesson is tailored to each student and is designed to be fun and inspiring while introducing and cultivation a strong sense of rhythm, artistry, music theory, reading and improvisation.
The Suzuki Approach to music education was begun in the middle of the twentieth century by Japanese violinist, Shin'ichi Suzuki. It works on the principal that every child has the capacity to develop musical ability during the early years. A child learns music in much the same way the "mother tongue" language is learned. The parent's role is vital in the development of early learning ability; a parent attends lessons with the child and helps with practice at home. The parent's knowledge of the instrument and of music develops along with the child's. No prior knowledge is necessary.
The basic principles of the Suzuki Approach consist of listening, repetition, motivation and encouragement. The primary goal is to nurture not only the child's musical abilities but also the total human being.
Young students enrolled in our program receive a minimum of 33 weeks of instruction in the year. At least one parent must be present at each session. We are currently accepting beginners, ages four (4) and up in person (located near Huntsville, AL), or students age six (6) and up virtually. For more information please contact us via the contact form on the Welcome! page. For a more detailed look at the Suzuki Method, click on the button below.
